IIT -JEE

The IIT-JEE as an exam has evolved a lot over the past few decades and has time and again proved its credibility as an institution by selecting candidates who have the right aptitude for engineering education.

Why IIT-JEE is so special?

Though the total number of seats in IIT-JEE have trebled in the past 15 years but simultaneously the total number of candidates appearing in this exam has also quadrupled. So in reality, only 1 in 55 students manages to get select in iitjee. To make it easier for school students, iitjee has restricted the attempts taken by students to only two (first time in class XII and one after that) so that a level playing field is ensured and students who drop a year or two after school to prepare solely for iitjee do not get an unfair advantage over students who are engaged in a tough balancing act between managing their school studies and preparing for IIT-JEE.

About IITJEE

Designed to test a student’s grasp over the basic fundamentals of physics, chemistry and mathematics, the IIT –JEE consists of two question papers each of three hours duration with separate sections for Physics, chemistry and mathematics. To crack this exam it is imperative that you get into the habit of solving problems swiftly . Transferring answers on to an Optical Response Sheet as soon as you complete a question is a skill that you need to master to stay ahead of the pack in IITJEE. Quite a few hardworking students fail to make the grade as they do not have sufficient familiarity with the exam process as they have spent most of their time in preparing for the IITJEE but are not accustomed to the rigors of the exam. Make sure you don’t make this mistake when you take your best shot at IIT-JEE. Good Luck!

What is IIT JEE?

The Indian Institutes of Technology (popularly known as IITs) are institutions of national importance established through an Act of Parliament for fostering excellence in education. There are fifteen IITs at present, located in Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Delhi, Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Mandi, Mumbai, Patna, Ropar and Roorkee. Over the years IITs have created world class educational platforms dynamically sustained through internationally recognized research based on excellent infrastructural facilities. The faculty and alumni of IITs continue making huge impact in all sectors of society, both in India and abroad. Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University (IT-BHU) Varanasi and Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad, are the oldest institutions in India and are known for their immense contributions towards society at large and for science and technology in particular.
The primary objectives behind such institutions are to:
Build a solid foundation of scientific and technical knowledge and thus to prepare competent and motivated engineers and scientists
Create environment for freedom of thought, cultivate vision, encourage growth, develop personality and self-discipline for pursuit of excellence
Kindle entrepreneurial streak
All of the above help to prepare the students admitted to these institutions for successful professional and social lives. Today, alumni of these institutions occupy key positions in industry and academia in India and abroad.
Each institute has well-equipped modern laboratories, state-of-the-art computer network and well stocked technical library. Teaching methods rely on direct personal contact between the teachers and the students and the use of traditional and modern instructional techniques. Students live in a pleasant and intellectually stimulating environment with people having similar goals and aspirations, which is an exciting and unique experience.
These institutions offer courses leading to Bachelor’s degree in a number of engineering, technological and scientific disciplines. M.Sc. Integrated courses in pure and applied sciences and M.Tech. Integrated courses in a few disciplines are also offered by some of these Institutions. In addition, some IITs offer Dual-Degree M.Tech. programmes, wherein both B.Tech. and M.Tech. degrees are awarded.
Credit-based acade2mic programmes offer flexibility to students to progress at their own pace. A minimum level of performance is necessary for satisfactory progress. The medium of instruction is English.
The admissions to the Undergraduate Programmes at these institutions for all Indian and Foreign nationals are made through the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).

From 2012 onwards Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) propose to return to the old system of screening aspirants at two levels to weed out “unmanageable” candidates taking the exam every year. For the final entry to the technical institutes, aspirants who clear the first level of screening- comprising Class XII board exams and national aptitude test – would have to write an exam featuring long questions that demand reasoning ability from the students.
The government recently announced that only those students who secured first class (60 per cent) in plus two exam will be eligible for admission to the IITs (however there is relaxation of 5 per cent for SC/ST students).
As per the decision the students will get only two attempts – the year of clearing plus two examinations and the following year – to appear in JEE test.

IIT JEE 2012 Paper Pattern:-

There will be two question papers, each of three hours duration. Both the question papers will consist of three separate sections on Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. They will be of objective type, designed to test comprehension, reasoning and analytical ability of candidates.
The answers for each of the questions are to be recorded on a separate, specially designed, machine-gradable sheet of paper (ORS Optical Response Sheet). While answering each of the questions the candidate is expected to darken the bubble(s) against correct answer(s) using hard black (HB) pencils only. In some sections, incorrect answers may be awarded negative marks.

IIT JEE 2012 Eligibility:-

The candidate must have passed their 10+2 examinations from a recognized board.
The candidates who will be giving their final examinations of 10+2 in 2011 are also eligible to apply.
